FSG Novel goes to Netfilx

April 3, 2012

According to a report from Publishers Weekly, publisher Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, well known around writing programs for its classy books of poetry, is having one of its novels adapted into an original series for Netflix, the direct-to-consumer distributor of television shows and movies, online and in the mail. The novel, by Brian McGreevy, is Hemlock Grove, a gothic horror story set in Pittsburgh, centered on a murder near a steel mill, and the book was released on March 27, 2012. Actress Famke Janssen will star and Director Eli Roth, known for the torture-horror movie franchise Hostel) is listed as a producer.

While it’s no news that anybody’s novel is being adapted for a film or television series, it may be of some consideration to remember that when creative businesses such as Netflix are looking to expand and excel, they often look to storytellers for original material—and it doesn’t always require the literary following of a Harry Potter or Hunger Games. The series is set to debut in 2013, a pretty quick turnaround from publication to screen.
